It constantly amazes me the places I have yet to explore in Hampton Roads. We have done so much in Virginia Beach, I decided to look what Hampton has to offer. I found a little piece of paradise. It kind of reminded me of being on Ocracoke in North Carolina, but without ANY commercialism. It also reminded me of that movie with Brooke Shields, Blue Lagoon…isolated and beautiful, but without the jungle and gorgeous waterfalls.
What drew me in was the chance to go see the Lighthouse that was destroyed by Hurricane Flossy in 1956. Now all that is there is a pile of rubble. No matter, I still wanted to go see it. If the sandbar is just right, according to another blogger, you can walk out to it…scary and cool at the same time. My son was very disappointed as we did not hit it on the right day.
But as we kept exploring, his happy disposition returned.
We found tons of coral, horseshoe crabs, shells, rocks and some sea glass. Our goal is to go back after one of our Nor’easters to find some more treasures.
To find Grandview Nature Preserve, take I-64, exit 267 to Woodland Rd. Turn right onto Fox Hill Road and left onto Beach Road (follow the signs for the marinas and boat ramp) to State Park Dr.
Photography is my passion, but Real Estate is how I feed my family and support the Autism Community – every chance I get through Spectrum Parents and the Autism Society.
