Foreclosing as a strategy?

I can still afford my home, but it depreciated, so I am walking away.


Who walks away from their home when they can still afford it? If you had bought your house less than 2 years ago and its value fell 15%, would you be tempted to walk away?  Twenty-five percent (25%) or a quarter of home owners are walking away from their mortgages, even if they can pay it.  WHAT?????  This does not make sense to me. Help me understand.

There has got to be  more to the story.  Are they military or could it be a corporate move, how about the elderly?
